Designs, either presenting something real or suggesting it in a simpler way , get perceived through the senses and are also classified based on them as visual, auditory or audiovisual ones.Subcategories of the one mentioned give more information to understand the design on their whole .

A. Visual static surface design, includes designs presented on flat, curving or polyhedral surface , that show no movement and have components such as line, color and texture, mostly presented in two-dimensional. The design's surface shape, mass and void shape may variate slightly such as in low sculptural relief, but the main focus still remains on the surface's arrangement and as the word 'static' says there are no suggestions of movements.Subdivisions of this category are listed as below.

1.Strip design

Extended as long and narrow, mostly found as ribbons, borders and architectural mouldings in low relief. It is defined in boundaries which can be expanded lengthwise or making bigger and more complex units. A strip design may be flat or slightly dimensional, but it can also suggest the 3D aspect with illusions of solidity , depth or apertures by using shadows. With or without this shadow effect strip design may not represent nothing at all or even have a high level of realism.

2.Bounded area design , stays in the same dimensions as strip design but differs because it has a marked size and shape where should be positioned. Just in like some Dega's paintings , where the side is cut off to create the idea that different elements come together , in bounded are design, units without any obvious relation come together to make the design. However this units are in term of the purpose to represent something. But when the frame work is thematic or decorative , the units create a pattern. This bounded are design may be positioned on certain objects, whose shape determines the shape and size of the deign. This kind of design has the power to change the object into a new one.

3.Allover design repeats itself in two dimensions and four directions but the framework is the the surface of a solid object. However the surface is still treated as a flat one.The conventional types used are spot ,stripe ,scale, interlaced, flowered, figured and scenic patterns.Allover design can also be either flat or three dimensional, both presentatively and suggestively. Each of the units on its own is pictorial, but they repeat over and over to create a single, ore decorative, scene.

B.Visual static solid design, consists on the use of solid masses, voids and surface shapes, considerably thick , deep, long and broad.

1.Exterior design.

Architectural objects or even other solid ones , show different aspects of the surface from different points of view, because of the angle you may be positioned.Beside the dynamism developed , some details that in overall create the solid design can only be addressed to an eye who recognises and knows their function.

2. Interior design as well surround the observer to have an immediate impact on him, even though the complexity it is only perceived on its overall.

3. Combinations of the two , the occasion when exterior connects to the interior and function in term of each other.

4.Intermediate between surface and solid design, where the difference consists on the height of relief variations.

C. Visual mobile temporally developed design.

1. Mobile surface design which is a visually presented thematic developed in time in a two dimensional space with elements like motion pictures, shadow plays and lumia or mobile color. The design must be moved by someone the motion suggested or represented must be viewed from right to left.

2. Mobile solid design presents three dimensional solid figures which develop in space and time. With some limited movements the design's figures do not have a thematically development.

D. Auditory design

1.Musical design whose elements are melody ,tempo, meter, dynamics, chord structure and progression, and orchestration ,has its units like rhythm, pitch, timbre ,consonance and dissonance which develop based on a specific theme.

2. Word-sound design is a base for literary design which suggests, while the design on its own is presented when literature is spoken ,in different words just like an extended music resemble.

3.Verbal-musical design is a combination of what mentioned above, musical patterns and word-sound ones.

E.Audiovisual design.

1.Audiovisual surface design, a combination of mobile visual patterns and music, word-sound or both.

2 . AudiovisuaL solid design as a combination of mobile solid patterns with auditory ones.

F. Types of design based on suggestive thematic development present basis developments in space ,time or both, easily cached by the senses. The thematic development of this designs it differs in literature by being suggestive and having different impact on the ones that perceive.

Designs as a form of art aim to reach the beautiful,as subjective as it may be, based on the rules that every category has set.
